A Better Alternative to Using Slides in Videos

Published on January 27, 2021

If you're like me (and many other video editors), you have used Keynote or PowerPoint slides in videos that you've made.

In this video, I share some of my thoughts about alternatives that I think are better.

I hope the information is helpful!

Terrific, as usual, thanks!

Thanks! I'm glad you like it. :)

Very nice! It’s definitely an improvement over the original. I like the subtle reflection too.

BTW - probably just a typo but “10:30am” should be “10:30 am.”

It looks like you can change the background and frame color too. Is that right?

And very inspiring in all the usual ways!

izzyhyman on January 23, 2021 wrote:

Thanks, and yes the colors are customizable. The initial colors are just the default for the design. :)

Oh wow! I was dreading getting back into the creation of slides again for my next video presentation. Just as you said, I always have to go back and re-do the slide and upload again, etc. I would very much like to take you up on your offer for the ones you're going to make available on your website. I'm so grateful for this!

Nice, Izzy. Thanks for sharing and continuing to help us all grow in our video skills.

Sure thing! Thanks for the note. :)

I'm creating biographic videos of elderly residents in the retirement community in which I live. They are amazing people who have changed all of our lives for the better. I have been inserting slides exactly as you depicted to show their historic photos as they describe their memories. These templates will be so much better! Thanks, Izzy -- you've done all the hard work, and I'm going to get the credit!

Haha, that's awesome! :)

Thank you so much Izzy. I am finally at the point where I can start learning Motion, but it would be great to jump-start it all if you offer your transitions. Let us all know when we can purchase them. Hope your New Year is starting out great.

Thanks Izzy for More Motion Magic. This will make better presentation, but I'm sure all my friends will miss my Kodak Carousel projector with the stacks of trays full of my vacation slides. Oh well, progress...

Thanks, Cristina!

And Don, you're hilarious. :)

Thanks as always, Izzy. I did not see a way to download it...am I missing something?

izzyhyman on January 25, 2021 wrote:

Thanks! And no, you're not missing anything. This is part of a collection which I'll be offering on my website soon. I'm still putting finishing touches on them, and they'll be available to purchase for the folks who would rather use pre-made templates instead of building templates themselves.

Hey Izzy - another useful approach - easy to follow -
Thanks

Thanks Izzy. When are these going to be available? Also, is it possible to take your templates and tweak them in Motion to make more? (I don't have Motion yet, but I would get it...).

izzyhyman on January 25, 2021 wrote:

I'm hoping to have them available later this week. I'm fine-tuning them now.

And yes, you can use Motion to change them in whatever ways you want. That's how I personally work a lot of the time: start with a base design and then customize according to my needs. :)

And for folks without Motion, many controls (colors/text/drop zones) are customizable directly within Final Cut Pro.

Thanks for the interest!

Izzy: I agree 100% - your drop-zone templates make it so easy that it is unquestionably superior to Keynote or Powerpoint! Nice job!

I really like this way of doing the slide look. The additional motion and the way the text comes is really drawing your attention to the video.

Thanks

I feel the same way. Thanks! :)

Where can one acquire these custom made template titles. In my current version of FCP I see an IZZY category in the Titles folder with other templates but not the ones made for this video.

If you click on "Shop" in the menu bar above, then you'll see the "Gentle" flow module collection. That's the collection of modules that I just released (and also demonstrated in the video above).

Thanks!
